FOR DEVELOPERS
By providing small capacity cloud infrastructure, TableOS sidesteps the costs and encumbrances of data centers, offering unique advantages to developers and end users. The potential install base is as diverse and widespread as Debian itself: individuals, families, small businesses, non-profits, community groups, houses of worship, and so on.
TableOS can benefit any person or organization that wishes to offer cloud services at scales of a few thousand users instead of a few million.
Open Source Projects
If you run an open source project and believe your software is right for TableOS, please get in touch.
We know an operating system isn't anything without the programs and services that run on it, so we split the revenue from every TableOS subscription 50-50 with the developer(s) whose software is being self hosted. If someone is paying us to self host your project, you get paid.
To prevent any misunderstanding: we retain total control over program selection and can refuse or remove anything for any reason. But we are also developers ourselves and we want TableOS to offer the public a broad ecosystem of applications and capabilities. So while we are explicitly gatekeeping, we also want to be as permissive as possible about who gets through the gate. The main requirements are that programs and services be mature, stable, and do what they say in the description.
Furthermore, while we plan to market program bundles to specific audiences, all programs offered on TableOS are treated equally. There is no tag spam, no 4.5 stars, no pay-to-play, no bidding on placement, and no review system to be gamed by bots or SEO. If a program is listed in the TableOS software catalog, we stand behind it.
Inclusion on TableOS does not require a separate commercial version of your project, nor are we asking you to change your open source license. We want you to keep doing what you've been doing: developing software that people want to use. Our role is to 1) get users up and running, and then 2) keep them online. All we ask is that you link to us on your project's home page and list us among any hosting or hardware partnerships.
Once we have verified a legal financial recipient, payments are made monthly on a net 60 day basis. You'll get a developer login here at TableOS.net where you can see upcoming payments and notify us about any on-line resource changes. Finally, knowing that different developers work on open source for different reasons, we'll happily send your cut to a charity or something if that's what you want.
Commercial Software
If you publish commercial software and would like to host programs and services on-premises at customer locations, please contact us about licensing.
TableOS can provide a secure environment for your application as a stand alone, or as part of a larger package. Just like Debian, it can run on anything from a Raspberry Pi to a specced out server depending on the requirements of your software and your users.
For remote access, we can redirect URL subdomains on a per server basis, so your customers can access their services from CustomerName.YourURL.com or something similar. You also have a full operating system at your disposal for APIs, on device ML/AI/LLMs, or other back end needs.
It's not for everybody, but at a scale of small and medium business (~10,000 users or less), TableOS offers the privacy and security of desktop with the convenience and reach of cloud.
